The Takács Quartet is widely considered one of the world's finest chamber ensembles, celebrated for their unique blend of technical perfection, warmth, and profound musical communication. Whilst in the UK in 2027, they make a whistle stop visit to Chipping Campden between their two concerts at the Wigmore Hall along with Steven Osborne, recipient of the Royal Philharmonic Society Instrumentalist of the Year award.
Schubert's Quartet in D minor, known as the "Death and the Maiden", is the outpouring of his feelings about death. It is of almost unrelenting ferocity and darkness, with only a few moments of major key lightness to alleviate the all pervading tension. A moment of shimmering relief comes with Ravel’s spellbinding Sonatine before the diving into the turbulent waters of César Franck’s Piano Quintet.
